| Additional Information |
If you're looking for a starting point, you might say it's the places The Angel has chosen to live that have helped to define her distinctive sound. Born and raised in Brooklyn, The Angel came to understand well what defines the soul of the city in that environment so steeped in jazz and the forces of hip-hop innovations. Onward to London where she spent several years immersing herself in the eclectic scene that embraced the many fruitful combinations of jazz, soul, and dance music. And finally, we find The Angel in the City of Angels, where she currently lives soaking up hazy sunshine and cinematic visions to the beat of her own drum. If you add to that her frequent sojourns to Bristol, the capitol of the world's most dubbed-out drum & bass, then you're starting to get a good idea of the herbs and spices that make up Angel's sonic cookbook.
As a result of her time spent in the UK, the birthplace of drum & bass, The Angel has expanded her rhythmic crusade into new realms, exploring the infinite possibilities within the complex and sophisticated breakbeat genre. Not one to kick back within the cliches of preset musical definitions, The Angel has incorporated the spirit of those rhythms into her own unique style, represented lovely through her programming skills on 60 Channels. In addition, her collaboration with More Rockers, as Jaz Klash, gave birth to the album "Thru The Haze". Recorded in `96 and first released on Bristol's Cup of Tea Records, the album features Hammond legend Brian Auger, and pianist supreme, Jacky Terrason and yields an impressive result: a sonic mural on the brick wall of today's music, dedicated to everything that drives the current groove. No surprise, her work on this monumental package simply exceeds all your preconceived notions of just what drum & bass, jazz, and hip-hop should sound like together.
