Additional Information
Compound Elements originated in 1997 in Oakland, California, the brainchild of veteran MC Mr. Wonderful and producer/MC Waes One. Drawn together through a mutual affinity for classic rap, the two have since been engaged in a fierce ideological assault through the world of independent hip hop. With blatant disregard for the US PATRIOT ACT, the CE address such controversial fare as the ills of cultural imperialism and wage slavery, yielding scathing critiques of mainstream American culture.

"We keep the lyrics meaningful," says Waes One. "We want tospeak on topics that are socially pertinent in a way that's stylistically complex and challenging to the listener."

The year 2000 saw the duo's first official release, the eponymous Compound Elements. The four song EP introduced the CE's unique vision of rugged, intellectually charged music, deftly infused with stark political and social commentary.

2002's Solutions EP was fueled by deep frustrations with an emerging climate of intolerance, the continued erosion of civil liberties, and rampant jingoism. Noted for its dark, overtly hardcore feel, Solutions serves as a masterfully artistic counter to the status quo.

Compound Elements released their highly anticipated full-length debut in late 2003. Aptly entitled The Struggle, the album is the complete realization of the vision hinted at in previous recordings. Featuring guest appearances by Substance Abuse's Eso Tre, Magnolia Slim, and DJ Spair of the Oakland Faders, The Struggle is a tour de force destined to become an underground classic.
